Sunday morning I enjoyed teaching at Word Power Church Children’s Ministry. I was excited to teach them about Hanukkah and they were excited to learn.

Whenever we teach, we also learn. If we learn and obey, we grow!

The kids were surprised that there was no more Temple in Jerusalem. We are now the temple of the Holy Spirit. I Corinthians 3:16 reads “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and [that] the Spirit of God dwells in you?”

Just as Antiochus and his group desecrated the Holy Temple of God by sacrificing a pig in the Holy of Holies, we too have allowed and even welcomed things to happen in our life that are so out of the will of the Kingdom of God. Through our eye gate and ear gate we have allowed the powers of darkness too much place in our life.

I am currently rereading the novel “This Present Darkness” by Frank Peretti (1986). When I read this book in the 80’s I was awakened to how the spirit world operated and stirred me up to pray. No other book has made such an impression on me as this book, and rereading it now has alerted me to how easy it is to slip into darkness.

The back cover of this book reads, “Not since The Screwtape Letters has there been a novel with as much insight into spiritual warfare and the necessity of prayer.”

We do not have to work to have weeds grow in our garden, but we have to work to have flowers grow. Weeds naturally happen, just as darkness comes if we do not work to keep our light bright. The Maccabees fought for 3 years to liberate the Holy Temple, then had to work to clean it.

Don’t you think it is time to clean your body, the Temple of God, and rededicate it back to God? Time to get our lights back on!!!!  Remember, there is no power in darkness the greatest power in the universe is in the light. Selah!

He is the King of the Universe!!!

Each night after the first lighting the prayer is:

“Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to kindle the Chanukah light. Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who performed miracles for our forefathers in those days, at this time.”

Me-lech ha-olam is Hebrew for King of the Universe. Olam also means ‘eternal, eternity’, that means His kingdom will have no end!

The first question in the New Testament is found in the Gospel of  Matthew, Chapter 2. “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king,  behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, (2) Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in
the east, and are come to worship him.”

Both Isaiah and Luke confirm that Yeshuah’s kingdom will never end.

Isaiah 9:6 & 7 foretells, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of [his] government and peace [there shall be] no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

The Angel of God told Mary, as recoreded in Luke 1:30, “And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. (31) And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. (31) He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: (32) And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.”

Revelation 19:16 declares, “And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”

I challenge you today to pledge anew your allegiance to the one true King! Worship Him with your whole heart today! Let your light shine as an overflow of your worship to the one true King!

Happy Hanukkah!!!  Rejoice, God is not dead and is still the same. He is still doing miracles and has great things in store for those who love Him!! In fact, He has great things in store for those who do not know and love Him yet.

Tonight we light the first candle of 8. The first thing we realize about this menorah is that it has 9 candles instead of the usual 7, as in the Temple. The Hanukkah menorah is special because it symbolizes the miracle of  one day’s supply of oil lasting for eight days.

The middle candle is called the Shamash and lights each candle, one per day. The candles are to be lit from right to left.

First Night Only  The prayer to be prayed each night as you light your candle is as follows: (Hebrew) Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-he-nu Me-lech ha-olam she-heche-ya-nu ve-ki-yi-ma-nu ve-higi-a-nu liz-man ha-zeh. Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has granted us life, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this occasion.

Add blessing below to the first night’s prayer

Remaining 7 nights

Hebrew: Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-he-nu Me-lech ha-olam a-sher ki-de-sha-nu be-mitz-vo-tav ve-tzi-va-nu le-had-lik ner Chanukah. Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-hei-nu Me-lech ha-olam she-a-sa ni-sim la-avo-te-nu ba-ya-mim ha-hem bi-z’man ha-zeh.

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to kindle the Chanukah light. Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who performed miracles for our forefathers in those days, at this time.

Yeshuah said that we are the “light of the world”. I challenge you each of these special 8 days to begin anew to renew the flame of your love for Him. Let the world see how we are ‘Blessed to be a blessing’. Let your light shine!

Sundown December 8, 2012 begins the 8 day Hebrew festival of Hanukkah.

It is also spelled Chanukah, or called the Festival of Lights or Feast or Dedication. The word Hanukkah itself means “re-dedication“. This festival is always from Kislev 25 to Tevet 2 on the Hebrew calendar, but on the calendar we use in our everyday lives it falls on different Gregorian calendar days. This is the only holiday (holy day) that covers 2 months.

John 10:22, “And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter.”  The NLT Bible reads “It was now winter, and Jesus was in Jerusalem at the time of Hanukkah

In John 8:12 & 9:5 Jesus says that He is the light of this world. In Matthew 5:14 Jesus says that we are to be the light of this world. We can only be the light of this world by reflecting the true Light of Jesus. As we behold the glory of His face, we will shine in this world’s present darkness.

This is not one of the 7 Feasts of the Lord, but a memorial holiday. They remember the miracle that happened and to celebrate the miracle and provision on that first Hanukkah in 167 BC. The holy temple of God had been defiled, to the extent that a pig was sacrificed on the holy altar of God by the successors of Alexander the Great. Judah Maccabee (The Hammer) organized a revolt and they succeeded in getting back the Holy Temple of God. The problem, cleaning up the unholiness and bringing back holiness into the Temple. There was only enough holy oil for the Menorah to light the Temple for 1 day and it took 8 days for the procedure to make the oil holy. A miracle happened when 1 day’s supply of oil lasted 8 days. On the 8th day they celebrated the miracle and from then until now, they celebrate and remember the miracles of God.

I will post a special Hanukkah message each day for the next 8 days- hope you enjoy!

Matthew 24:12, “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”

The words ‘shall wax cold’ are actually one word in the Greek language. Psycho.

Psycho is only used once in Bible and it means ‘to breath upon to make cold’,  a metaphor of waning love.

Psycho is an adjective for psychopath, someone who is crazy or insane (according to the online free dictionary). Today if you said someone was psycho it would not be a compliment.

In the gospel of Matthew it was not intended to be a compliment, but a stern warning. Renew your mind with the Word of God and you will not go crazy in the End Days.

Historically comets have come before wars, seen as bad omens of deaths of kings or noble men or a warning of forthcoming danger. See my blog of 9/25/11 Significant Comets Connection to Historic Events.

Comet ISON was discovered by September 21, 2012 by 2 Russian Astronomers, Vitali Nevski and Artyom Novichonok. Since they were using a telescope that belonged to International Scientific Optical Network (ISON) the comet was named after the network and not by their names (i.e., Halleys Comet found by Edmond Halley).

Comet ISON could be the brightest comet in history, time will tell.  We will see what happens as it approaches the sun November 28, 2013.

The significance I see is that it is expected to be the brightest comet in history and it will be in our viewing during the first of the tetrad Blood Moon over Passover of 2014.

When the signs are in the heavenlies over God’s appointed festivals (Feasts of the Lord) it is calling us to attention, watch. Luke 2:25, “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; (28) Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (Also Daniel 6:26-27; Joel 2:31; Isaiah 34:2-5)[my comment- look up, WATCH the heavenly signs]

Genesis 1:14, And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

Cheshvan is the eighth of the twelve months on the Jewish “lunar” sacred calendar and second in the civil calendar. This year it begins at sundown November 1st and ends at sundown November 30  . The length of this month may be 29 or 30 days, this year it will have 29.

Cheshvan (khesh-vahn) is call the month of bool, a name that stems from the word for “flood”. The flood began on the 17th of Cheshvan, and ended the following year on the 27th of Cheshvan. On the following day, the 28th of Cheshvan, Noah brought his sacrifice to God and God swore never again to bring a flood upon the earth to destroy all mankind, and then revealed the sign of His covenant with the world, the rainbow. For this reason, it is called “MarCheshvan” or ‘bitter Cheshvan’.

I Kings 6:38 calls this month Bul. “And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which [is] the eighth month” Bul means ‘increase, produce’ from the root meaning ‘rain, showers’, referring to this being a month of showers.

Kristallnacht, the Night of the Broken Glass of 1938, falls on the 15th of Cheshvan. This commemorates when the Nazis youth gangs roamed through Jewish neighborhoods breaking windows of business and homes and burning synagogues. The began the violence against the Jewish people in Germany. 75,000 businesses were destroyed, 26,000 Jews were arrested and sent to concentration camps for defending themselves & property. 91 Jews died and this began the Holocaust.

Cheshvan is the only month which has no holidays or special mitzvot. It is taught that it is “reserved” for the time of the Messiah, who will inaugurate the third Temple in Cheshvan. This is known as the most drab and colorless month of the year. This month falls after Tishri, with the Feasts of Trumpets, Day of Atonement and Tabernacles. Cheshvan cannot compare to the brilliance of the Falls Feasts. This is another reason it is called ‘bitter Cheshvan’.

Letter- nun, (noon) the 14th letter in the Aleph-Bet and has a numerical value of 50 (representing freedom and fullness of life). The pictograph of this letter is a fish and in ancient symbols it is seen as a fish darting through water. Nun is also seen as a sprout of vegetation. Both of these pictographs denote action and life. The word “please” is made up of the letter aleph & nun, aleph representing an ox and nun representing action. Asking please is an “sign of strength”.

Mazal : “Akrav” (Scorpio- the Scorpion) The Hebrew root for Scorpio means “a deadly foe” or “to cleave in conflict“.  In the story of Jesus in the heavenly constellations, the stars from brightest first tell the story of  “The serpent seeking to wound, but itself trodden under foot.”
Tribe: Manasseh, first born son of Joseph when he was in rulership under Pharaoh in Egypt. Manasseh’s name means “one who makes me forget”. Manasseh’s weakness was he wanted everything ‘right now’. His strength was the ability to forget and not hold grudges, loyal and would not bend under pressure.
Notable Dates in Cheshvan
  • 3- In the year 1290, the last of the 16,000 Jews expelled by King Edward I left England. King Edward had banned usury and forced Jews over the age of seven to wear an identifying badge.
  • 4-In 1483, Tomas de Torquemada was appointed as “Grand Inquisitor of the Spanish Inquisition.” Jews of Spain had been forced to convert to Christianity, and the Inquisition was designed to uncover those who were continuing to practice their Judaism in secret (called Conversos or Marranos). Those who never confessed were burned at the stake; those who did confess were strangled first.  An estimated 32,000 were burned at the stake, and Torquemada’s name became a byword for cruelty and fanaticism in the service of religion. The order of expulsion was not officially voided by the government of Spain until 1968.
  • 5– In 1975, Israel signed the Sinai disengagement pact with Egypt. The agreement called for Israel to withdraw from the Sinai passes captured in the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
  • 7- “Deliver Dew and Rain” prayers are added for rain in Israel
  • 10-On this date in 2105 BC, Noah and family entered the Ark. It wasn’t until seven days later, however, that the intense rains began for 40 days and 40 nights. The delay was to allow a proper mourning period for Methuselah, the righteous grandfather of Noah who had just died at the age of 969 years, history’s oldest human being.
  • 11– Jewish Mother’s Day commemorating the death of Rachel, wife of Jacob (Israel). Rachel’s Tomb, located by Bethlehem,  is regarded as Judaism third-holiest site.
  • 12– Assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin (1955), not a national memorial day
  • 12- In 1975, the United Nations passed a resolution declaring that “Zionism is racism.” Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Chaim Herzog, noted the irony of the vote coming (on the English calendar) exactly 37 years after Kristallnacht. The UN Secretary General at the time was Kurt Waldheim, later accused of war crimes while serving as a Nazi officer. The “Zionism is racism” canard is easily refuted by Israel’s open and democratic character — with Arabs serving in parliament, as well as Israelis of all skin colors. Upon the airlift of Ethiopian Jews to Israel, William Safire noted: “For the first time in history, thousands of black people are being brought to a country — not in chains but in dignity, not as slaves but as citizens.” The UN General Assembly voted to repeal the resolution in 1991.
  • 13– In 1938, Hank Greenberg of the Detroit Tigers narrowly missed breaking Babe Ruth’s single-season home-run record of 60 home runs. Greenberg hit his 58th homer with two weeks remaining in the season, but several pitchers then intentionally walked him rather than give a Jewish man a chance to break Babe Ruth’s record. (He led the league that year with 119 walks.) Though Greenberg disputes this motive, he did acknowledge being subject to the most vicious ethnic taunting seen in the sport since the days of Jackie Robinson in 1947. Greenberg testified: “During my first year in the big leagues, the remarks from the stands and the opposing bench about my Jewish faith made life for me a living hell.” Greenberg grew up in an observant Jewish household, and did not play on Yom Kippur. In 1954, he became the first Jewish player to be elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame in Cooperstown
  • 14- In 1917, the British government gave final approval for the Balfour Declaration, calling for the establishment of a Jewish homeland in historic Israel
  • 15- Kristallnacht, Night of the Broken Glass 1938. The Nazis destroyed almost all of the 1,600 synagogues  in Germany, as well as thousands of Jewish businesses and homes.
  • 17– If no rain has fallen yet in the month, special prayers are prayed this day for rain
  • 17– Great flood began 1656 (2105 BC) and Noah and his family were the only survivors
  • 17– 960 BC Solomon’s Temple completed, but dedicated the following year in Tishri, the month of Isaac’s birth. This month  is believed to be the future dedication of the Third Temple
  • 17– On this date in 1919, a New York Times headline declared “Einstein Theory Triumphs.” In 1952 he turned down an offer to become President of the State of Israel. Einstein has been called one of the most influential figures in history, and Time magazine named him “Person of the Century.” Einstein was Jewish and born in Germany.
  • 18- In 1938, Nazi leader Hermann Goering announced that in order to “solve the problem of the Jews,” the African island of Madagascar was being considered as a giant ghetto for 4 million European Jews. The Madagascar Plan was cancelled due to a British blockade. One year later, it was decided that the “Final Solution to the Jewish Question” would mean extermination.
  • 18– 1990, Assassination of Rabbi Meir Kahane, Jewish leader, founder of the American Jewish Defense League and former Knesset member, was assassinated in New York by an Egyptian terrorist
  • 22- The deportation of Budapest Jews was resumed on this date in 1944. During this time, 20,000 Budapest Jews were shot by the banks of the Danube by Hungarian forces. Another 70,000 Jews were forced on a death march to Austria, of which the majority were either shot or died of starvation and exposure. Raoul Wallenberg was involved in saving some of Hungary’s Jews. Out of 750,000 Jews that lived in Hungary before the war, only 30 percent survived.
  • 23- In 164 BC, following the victory of the Maccabees, the Holy Temple in Jerusalem was purified and rededicated. The stones of the Temple’s altar which had been defiled by the Greeks were removed and placed in a storage chamber on the Temple Mount. In Talmudic times, this day was celebrated as a holiday
  • 23– 127 BC, according to Talmudic tradition, this was the date the stone of the altar was defiled by the Greeks and removed from the Holy Temple
  • 27– 2104 BC, in the Jewish year 1657 the ‘earth dried’ (Genesis 8:14) after the great flood of Noah’s family 365 days on the Ark. On this day, God is said to have commanded Noah to “Come out of the ark” and repopulate, settle and civilize the earth.
  • 30- In 1783, American forces recaptured New York City, clearing the way for the return of Jews who had been forced to flee when the British captured New York City in 1776. Jewish leaders were in danger due to their public support of the American Revolution. Perhaps the best-known was Haym Salomon, an immigrant from Poland, who worked as an undercover agent for George Washington. Salomon was arrested in 1778, accused of plotting to destroy British property in New York. Salomon was condemned to death for sabotage, but bribed his guard while awaiting execution, and escaped to Philadelphia. Salomon was an astute merchant and banker, and succeeded in accumulating a huge fortune which he used to finance the Revolution and later to save the new nation from financial collapse. When Salomon died at age 45 of tuberculosis, he was bankrupt and the U.S. government owed him $700,000 in unpaid loans.

Psalm 91:1 (HNV) “He who dwells in the secret place of Ha`Elyon will rest in the shadow of Shaddai. (2) I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in whom I trust.”

This may sound like a strange scripture for Tabernacles, but this is where we need to live (rest, abide) live right now!!

The custom of the Jewish people is to build a small tabernacle (succot, booths) outside their house and spend time in that temporary building. As they rest in the tabernacle, they would recall how the Hebrew children were taken care of for 40 years in the Wilderness journey. But today I don’t want to look back, but to be totally aware of our protection for today.

To understand where I am teaching today you will need a little understanding of the Law of First Mention. The “law of first-mention” is the principle in the interpretation of Scripture which states that the first mention or occurrence of a subject in Scripture establishes an unchangeable pattern, with that subject remaining unchanged in the mind of God throughout Scripture.

The first time we find the word shadow is in the story of Lot in the city of Sodom in Genesis 19. The angels of the LORD (who looked like men) had come into the city to bear witness to the wickedness. Before God can pass judgment there has to be 2 or 3 witnesses. Lot urged them to come and stay with him and his family for their safety. While they were in Lot’s house, they broke unleavened bread with Lot (the first mention of unleavened bread in the Bible).

When the men of Sodom came to demand to have sex with the angels, Lot’s reply was “See now, I have two virgin daughters. Please let me bring them out to you, and do you to them as is good in your eyes. Only don’t do anything to these men, because they have come under the shadow of my roof.”

First of all, I know what you are thinking.  Why did Lot say they could have his daughters? Lot knew they were not interested in women, but they were only interested in sodomizing men, a word that came from the sins of the city of Sodom.

But don’t miss the best point!  The angels came under covenant with Lot when they broke bread, which is a custom still held in the East. When you are in covenant, the other party will protect you no matter what it costs!!  The covenant made with bread and wine is stronger that your natural bloodline family.

This was God’s way, and it is the best way.  When Jesus broke bread with His disciples at what is now referred to as the Last Supper, He took the wine and said, ” and having taken the cup, and having given thanks, he gave to them, saying, `Drink ye of it — all; for this is my blood of the new covenant, that for many is being poured out — to remission of sins.” (YLT)  The Blood Covenant is still in force today, is still able to protect all who come under it and has never lost its power!!!

TODAY, MAKE YOUR ETERNAL SUCCOT UNDER THE SHADOW OF THE ALMIGHTY.  Allow Him to be your refuge and fortress. That eternal covenant will always be your safest place of safety in the midst of a storm!

NOT WITHOUT THE BLOOD
Hebrews 9:7, “But into the second part the high priest went alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the people’s sins committed in ignorance”
Hebrews 9:11, “But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. (12) Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.”
Jesus supplied His precious, spotless Blood on the Mercy Seat in Heaven, once and for all. He supplied, now we must apply.
Apply it in faith with the pen of your tongue. Speak mercy over your friends and country by the sprinkling of the Blood of Jesus. This is not a time to think about yourself, plead the Blood over our nation.
Revelation 1:5, “And from Jesus Christ, [who is] the faithful witness, [and] the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, (6) And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”
Kings have authority, Priests have access before the Throne by the Blood of Jesus to stand in the gap.
Yom Kippur is all about the Blood! Yom Kippur begins tomorrow at Sundown.

Yom Kippur, also known as  Yom Hakippurim (which means the day of covering or concealing), the Day of  Atonement, The Fast, The Great Fast, Day of the Covering, Face to Face (my favorite name); Day of Forgiveness, Day of Grace, or the Day of Judgment.

In history, this is the day that Moses came down the mountain after the 2nd set of 4o days when he spent his time interceeding for the nation of Isreal because of the sin of worshipping the Golden Calf. He went up the mountain after this idol worship incident on Elul 1 (when Teshuvah begins) and descended 40 days later on Tishri 10. When he came down he had the 2nd set of the 10 Commandments. The Atonement (Hebrew – chaphar, to cover, make reconciliation, to pacify or appease; to clear, purge or cleanse) was made at that time for the nation, one righteous man standing in the gap for the entire nation.

Moses said to HaShem: (Exodus 32:32) “Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin–; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written. (33) And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.” Notice the word “sin–” with the dashes behind it. That implies a sudden silence. The Midrash comments, “Whether of not You forgive the, take away my personal merits from Your ledger and assign them to the credit of Israel.”

The forgiveness for the nation once a year had to be made by the High Priest, where he would come ‘face to face’ with the glory of God in the Holy of Holies. The ransom sacrifice had to made by blood, because the only thing set apart from the foundation of the earth as an answer to sin was blood. The Israelites were not to touch blood, drink blood or eat an animal with the blood.

Leviticus 17:11 reads, “‘For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.”

Today I was reading Gwen Shaw’s book, The Power of the Precious Blood. One thing that she wrote really struck me today and I would like to share it with you. “God would not allow any priest who did not recognize the blood and the anointing to minister unto Him…… If you go to a church where the Blood is not honored, you better start seeking God’s face about whether you are doing His will. And if you support financially a ministry that is silent concerning the greatest truth of the Holy Spripture, you better know you are paying the way for which is not God’s pattern or religion.”

This is the way I see Yom Kippur, my personal opinion. The Spring Feasts (Passover)  are all about our personal salvation and the Fall Feasts are about National Salvation. Yom Kippur is for standing in the gap for your nation and Israel. But we must be prepared to come before the Face of God with the Blood of Jesus for those who are not prepared for the judgment that is beginning to come upon this earth.
