Is the Blood of Jesus ‘common’ to you?

Posted: June 12, 2011 in Power of the Blood of Jesus Teachings

Hebrews 10:29, (NKJV) “Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing , and insulted the Spirit of grace?”

  • The Greek word for common here is ‘koinos’ and means ‘ordinary; by the Jews unhallowed, profane, Levitcally unclean’.
  • In the NT koinos is used for common ( 7 times) , unclean (3) , defiled (1) and unholy (1).

Have you treated the Precious Blood of Jesus as ordinary or common, or has it become a tradition or ritual? If the Precious Blood of Jesus has become a tradition to you it now longer has power in your life.  We read in Mark 6:5 that Jesus could do no mighty works in His hometown because of their unbelief, they were familiar with Jesus as a person, and could not partake in the supernatural power of God that worked in Him.

  • The Greek word for insulted is ‘enybrizo’.
  • This is the only time it is used in the entire Bible and when one word is used 1 time only it is for strong emphasis.

The Amplied Bible of Hebrews 10:29b reads, ” and who has considered the covenant blood by which he was consecrated common and unhallowed, thus profaning it and insulting and outraging the [Holy] Spirit [Who imparts] grace (the unmerited favor and blessing of God)?”

That is pretty strong language isn’t it? Now take into account Paul’s instructing on taking the Lord’s Supper in I Corinthians 11:28 in the Message Bible reads, “Examine your motives, test your heart, come to this meal in holy awe.”

I encourage you to spend some time meditating on the Precious Blood of Jesus (I Peter 1:19), that cries ‘Mercy’ (Heb 12:24). Please do not take part in the Lord’s Supper as a tradition of men, treating it as ordinary, common or a ritual with no meaning. If you do, you will be insulting the only One who can bring the grace of God into your life and circumstances.

Ephesians 4:30 (Message Bible) “Don’t grieve God. Don’t break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted.”

What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

For my pardon, this I see,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my cleansing this my plea,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Nothing can for sin atone,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

This is all my hope and peace,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Now by this I’ll overcome—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus,
Now by this I’ll reach my home—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Glory! Glory! This I sing—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus,
All my praise for this I bring—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

    I pray that people realize the preciousness and holiness of the blood of Jesus, and have them impressed with the pain and agony Jesus went through, for each of us.

  2. Nancy Nicholson says:

    I am the music director at my church, and we are going to sing a “blood medley” some Sunday soon.
    This is the final chorus, (after “What Can Wash Away My Sin”, and “O, The Blood of Jesus”)
    …to a sweet old melody! I can’t stop singing these precious words!

    Blood of Jesus, shed for me
    Precious blood my covering be
    The only view God has of me
    Is through the blood of Jesus

    If all sin were mine alone
    Jesus’ blood would still atone
    I’ve been made God’s very own
    Through the blood of Jesus

    I shall see Him face to face
    Praising God, for by His grace
    All my sin has been erased
    Through the blood of Jesus!

    Love to you, Mary..

      Amen! Love you too! I am pleased that you are in a church that still allows the Blood songs. Many have taken them out of their services and hymnals. Love you too Nancy. You are forever in my cluster.

    This teaching is instructive and illuminating.Keep it up.
