This year on the Hebrew calendar is a Leap Year and makes it a ‘pregnant year’. The Leap Year cycles happen 7 times in 19 years.
It is interesting that the last time the moon was closest to the earth was 19 years ago, Adar B, 5752. The moon will be 221,567 miles from the earth and it is called a lunar perigee. Perigee means in Latin-Greek, “Closest to the Earth” and refers to a position in an orbit. Apogee means “Farthest from the Earth”.
I always look for connections on the Hebrew calendar when we have unusual heavenly occurances. So what if any connection does this lunar perigee on Purim have with March 1992?
- Both are Adar II, leap months
- Both fell on the Jewish Festival of Purim, which is always on the 14th of the month of Adar (Adar B when it is a Leap Year) and being the mid lunar month Purim always has a full moon. Purim in the memorial celebration of God saving the Jews from the plot of wicked Haman, as recorded in the Book of Esther.
- March 17, 1992 was the Argentina Israeli Embassy Bombing. In the early afternoon, a three-story Israeli embassy was entirely demolished: ‘a pickup truck driven by a suicide bomber and loaded with explosives smashed into the front of the Israeli Embassy. The embassy, a Catholic church, and a nearby school building were destroyed.’
- March 21, 1992, The Financial Times says one sensitive issue hovering in the background of Sharon’s visit to Washington is that of his country’s controversial arms relationship with China. Israel’s most recent planned sale of high-tech weaponry to Beijing was the “cause of a rare public spat with the US during the premiership of Ehud Barak”. The dispute last year involved Israel’s contract to supply Beijing with the Phalcon airborne early warning radar system developed by Elta, a subsidiary of Israel Aircraft Industries. The deal was frozen after a congressional committee protested, amid threats to cut military aid to Israel, that the sale would give China a military edge over Taiwan. …
- The Israeli Knesset passed the Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty. The first line of the law states, “The purpose of this Basic Law is to protect human dignity and liberty, in order to establish in a Basic Law the values of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state” http://www.knesset.gov.il/laws/special/eng/basic3_eng.htm ( It is amazing that 19 years later a family can be butchered in Israel just for being Jews. One of those murdered was a 3 month-old baby girl. Arab terrorists murdered five people in a family in the Jewish community of Itamar, in northeast Samaria, around 9 p.m. Friday night, Shabbat. Pray for the Peace of Jerusaelm, Psalm 122:6)
American Indians called the lunar perigee “Full Worm Moon” because the earth is getting warmer and the earth worms again become active. This moon has also been known as the “Full Crow Moon”, the “Full Crust Moon”, and the “Full Sap Moon”.
The position of the moon affects the tide, which is very familiar to us on the Gulf Coast. However, I did not know the affect it had on the earth (land) until I found that underground miners are aware of the lunar cycles, connecting them to mining disasters.
The are many fears of this causing more earth catrosphies are flying on the internet. The science of astronomy does not link earthquakes with the lunar perigee but with the intense earth quake and volcano cycles we are experiencing anything can happen.
God has not given us a ‘spirit of fear’, which terrorizes, but ‘power, love and a sound mind.’ (I Tim 1:7) Effective, fervrent prayers (James 5:16) are always done in faith, not fear. May we all take our positions of kings and priests unto God(Rev 1:6, 5:10) as stand in the gap (Ez 22:30) for the innocent, such as those who are suffering in Japan. Those that know their God shall be strong and do expoits. (Daniel 11:32)
Last thought, please do not get caught sidetracted at watching the heavens so much that your focus of worship is on the creation, not the Creator. Romans 1:20-21 is a warning also for us today. Worship God and hear Him. He will ‘fine tune’ you from your prayer time to discern what is the best use of your time.
