Elul 6, 5770- Teshuvah Day 6 (8/16/10)

Posted: August 16, 2010 in Teshuvah 40 Day Devotional

Sunday morning I awoke at 1:00 am and was not able to go back to sleep. I decided to get up and read the weekly Torah & Haftarah from the Message Bible as is my current weekend custom.

The Haftarah was what really ministered to me because when I awoke I was meditating on Psalm 27:1 which reads, “The LORD is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear. The LORD is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid.”

The Haftarah for this week was Isaiah 51:12-52:12. It begins ‘What are you afraid of – or who?”

I, I’m the One comforting you. What are you afraid of – or who? Some man or woman who’ll soon be dead? Some poor wretch destined for dust? You’ve forgotten me, God, who made you, who unfurled the skies, who founded the earth. …… For I am God, your very own God, who stirs up the sea and whips the waves, named God-of-the-Angel-Armies….(Hafarah ending with Is 52:12) God is leading you out of here, and the God of Israel is also your rear guard.”

What a blessing for our Lord to wake me up, give me that assurance, and then allow me to go right back to sleep, waking up refreshed to go worship Sunday morning.

So I am asking you, what are you afraid of- and who? Today, boldly say:

A psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation– so why should I be afraid? The LORD protects me from danger– so why should I tremble?
